Community Garden at Orchard Park

Community Garden at Orchard Park
Morehead Hill  - Durham, NC

The Community Garden at Orchard Park is an all-volunteer effort to maintain a community garden in our neighborhood. The Morehead Hill Neighborhood Association established the garden in partnership with the Durham Parks & Recreation Department and NEEM, with sponsorship support from BlueCross Blue Shield of North Carolina, among others.

Community Garden Plots Available

The Morehead Hill Community Garden at Orchard Park is fully subscribed for the 2020 season. Applications for the waiting list are now being accepted. Improvements in the works for this year include renovating the older beds. Contact Alexa McKerrow at alexa_McKerrow@ncsu.edu for more information or to obtain an application.

Calling all young gardeners!

The Morehead Hill Community Garden Board has generously donated one of the existing raised beds to be designated as a children's garden. Getting kids involved in gardening promotes exercise, fellowship, responsibility and an appreciation for how food gets onto one's plate.

If you know of any kids aged 4-16 who would like to participate, please contact Alexa McKerrow at alexa_McKerrow@ncsu.edu.

There is no cost to participate, and we would likely meet as a group one or two times a month to tend the plot, collaborate on planting, maybe journal on the experience, and other ideas as they evolve.

Members will be working at the garden on some Saturdays from 10-12. Feel free to stop by and meet us, sign up for your own garden plot, or lend a hand!
